Hop on the bus…
…and come with us on a pioneering cross-country road trip.
This week an all-electric double-decker bus will embark on a cross-country trip from Newark, CA to Winter Garden, FL, powering up exclusively at public chargers along the way.
You can join us in following the trip on Youtube, as James Wang and Dennis Utley, principals at Peoria Charters, live-stream their journey.
In Newark, the Proterra Powered Van Hool 100% electric bus charged up at the largest electric motorcoach charging facility in North America.
Developed in collaboration with EV charging and battery partner, Proterra, and local utility provider, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), the ABC Companies charging facility is equipped to charge up to 40 electric motor coaches with 20 dual-cable EV charging dispensers, and can support up to 1.4 megawatts of EV charging power. The Newark depot demonstrates that both the power and charging solutions are available to meet fleet operators’ needs to scale their commercial EV operations. This project was made possible in part by a $1 million grant from carbon revenues in the California Cap and Invest program.
While the double-decker is cruising across the panhandle of Texas, another Proterra all-electric bus will be rolling on roads closer to home. MTR Western has recently taken delivery of the first battery-electric double-decker motorcoach in Washington, and it’s sure to draw special attention for the Clean & Prosperous Washington logo on its side:
MTR Western was among the first cohort of companies graduating from the Breaking Barriers Collaborative’s Fleet Decarbonization Accelerator program (see below for information on the second cohort). Being a first-mover in the zero emission motorcoach industry is positioning MTR Western to capture the growing market of companies and travelers who want to reduce their carbon footprint.
