How will economists vote?
The Cap-and-Invest Climate Commitment Act (CCA) is 82 pages long, with hundreds if not thousands of pages of administrative rules. Carefully crafted by legislators over many years, it is now subject to repeal by voters who are tasked with assessing the value of the CCA based on a brief ballot description and competing campaign mailers.
Voters who don’t have the time to deeply analyze the economic impact of the CCA or its repeal would be well served to read this open letter signed by some of the top economists in the world:
“Ultimately, from an economic perspective, the question boils down to whether Washingtonians wish to achieve their state’s climate targets at the lowest economic cost. The undersigned environmental economists ask Washingtonians to uphold the state’s commitment to economically reducing GHG emissions by voting “No on I- 2117”.
